Phyllochron, and root system development of six strawberry cultivars with different photoperiodic flowering responses

Bare-root strawberry plants produced in Patagonia accumulate more reserves the main crown, which allows their immediate development after transplantation. Due to dependence on these bare-root plants, Brazilian producers use early cultivars, start leaves emission and flower buds differentiation advance, since do not always arrive within estimated time for planting southern Brazil. The objective of work was investigate whether six a greenhouse, differ phyllochron, root system development. Six cultivars were tested, arranged randomized block design, with four replications. cultivated soil greenhouse. phyllochron evaluated by counting number leaves, weekly, from beginning leaf (from crown) until appearance first fruit. roots digitized scanner images analyzed WinRHIZO® software. ‘Camarosa’ cultivar considered earliest fruiting, as it had lowest value (69.93ºC day-1 leaf-1), while ‘San Andreas’ latest (166.67ºC leaf-1). ‘Albion’ ‘Aromas’ presented highest total length relation other cultivars. In conclusion, this study, different photoperiodic classifications regarding flowering, morphophenological performance. growing conditions Brazil, study indicates that is latest. are compact greater potential system.

Proserpinaca palustris L. produced juvenile leaves on 8-hour photoperiods, adult leaves on 12-hour photoperiods, and adult leaves and flowers on 14-hour photoperiods.
